The History Of The Omega Constellation Watch

One of the most sought after of Omega’s lines, the Constellation family dates back to 1952, when Omega launched a new family of automatic chronometer watches. Advertised as “For the man who already has a watch”, the Constellation was marketed to the public as a timepiece that was far more than just a watch.

Due to trademark issues, this collection was known as the “Globemaster” in the USA up until 1956. Up until the 1960s, the dial was shaped like an upside down pie pan which led to their name “pie pans”. In 1982, Omega launched the ladies Constellation Manhattan with its distinctive “griffes”, claw like pattern. 2012 marked the 60th anniversary of the Constellation line.

Distinguishing Features

All gold Constellation models have a gold star on the dial at 6 o’clock and the Observatory of Geneva hand engraved on the back. This is where Omega set records for precision in 1951, a trait that runs through this entire collection. All cases are water resistant, either snap or screw back.

  • Style: Luxurious, refined and elegant.
  • Famous wearers: Elvis Presley, Cindy Crawford, Pierce Brosnan and Gorbachev.
