The initial review of an item being offered to us for purchase is via detailed photos of the item, the paperwork and box that come with it, prior to receipt. Many counterfeits are rejected at this step. Reasons for rejection at this initial stage can include, but are not limited to:
Furthermore, we warn sellers that if they send in a counterfeit item, they will be responsible for all costs of shipping (and duties).
Once an item comes in for review, it is physically evaluated and authenticated. Further reasons for rejection at this stage can include, but are not limited to:
Part of our authentication process is to ask for any brand paperwork and receipts that the customer has for the item being sold. As such, we typically get brand certificates and/or receipts for approximately half of the items we buy from Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels (most jewelry brands do not provide such certificates of authenticity).
In addition, we often send the item in to the brand itself for a re-polish to not only ensure to our customers that the item is genuine, but also to provide them with an "as new" product (i.e. a mint product with brand paperwork).
Every watch that we purchase is opened by a trained watchmaker in order to ensure that the item has genuine parts and is not a "Frankenstein" watch (i..e using non-manufacturer's original or "after-market" parts).
In addition, most watches are serviced by either the brand itself or a brand- accredited watch servicer and re-finished, providing our customers with an "as new" watch with a one year warranty.
We stand behind our authentication processes and guarantee every item for its authenticity.
