Born near Naples in 1983, Vitale studied at Istituto Marangoni, one of Italy’s most prestigious fashion schools. His career began with a year at DSQUARED2, where he absorbed the brand’s playful yet polished approach to luxury. He then moved to Bottega Veneta, where he gained experience in understated elegance and high-quality craftsmanship.
In 2010, Vitale joined Miu Miu, eventually rising to design and image director. Over the past decade, he helped define the label’s youthful, modern identity, infusing it with fresh energy while honoring the brand’s heritage. His work there showcased his ability to balance innovation with timeless style.
Versace: A Bold Appointment & A Short Tenure
In March 2025, Vitale was named creative director of Versace, replacing Donatella Versace. His appointment marked a historic moment: he was the first non‑family member to lead the house.
His debut collection for Spring/Summer 2026, presented in September, was widely praised, combining Versace’s signature glamour with fresh energy, subtle nods to Italian cinema, and modern youth culture.
But less than nine months into the role, Vitale’s time at Versace has come to an abrupt end. The brand announced he would step down effective 12 December 2025, just days after the house was acquired by the Prada Group – the same group that owns Miu Miu.
Versace thanked him for ‘his outstanding contribution to the development of the brand’s creative strategy during this transition period’. A successor is yet to be named.
