Chanel announced that Blazy would be holding the prestigious position on Thursday, December 12th, 2024. Blazy announced on Instagram: ‘I am thrilled and honoured to join the wonderful House of Chanel, I look forward to meeting all the teams and writing this new chapter together.’

Who Is Matthieu Blazy?
He is a French-Belgian designer. Matthieu Blazy was born in 1984 and grew up in Paris.
Blazy was hired by Raf Simons straight out of design school, who was a member of the jury for his graduate collection.
After this, he went on to become a designer at Maison Margiela. Here, he was part of an anonymous design team until Suzy Menkes revealed him in July 2014. In November of the same year, Blazy became a senior designer at Celine under Phoebe Philo. In 2016, he was appointed design director of women’s RTW at Calvin Klein.
In 2021, Matthieu Blazy was appointed as the creative director of Bottega Veneta. Here, he was praised for staying true to Bottega’s aesthetic while still driving the brand forward into a new era.
When Does Blazy Start At Chanel?
His role will commence in the first half of 2025 and his first collection will be presented in the second half of the year. He will be reporting into the President of Fashion at Chanel, Bruno Pavlovsky.
Who Was Creative Director At Chanel Before Matthieu Blazy?
After Coco Chanel's death in 1971, Chanel's couture house was led by a series of designers.
In 1978 the Chanel maison began to produce RTW and a few years later Karl Lagerfeld became creative director. He stayed in this role for 36 years until his death. Virginie Viard succeeded Lagerfeld until 2024.
