The History Of Cartier Juste Un Clou
Cartier has been a long time favorite of luxury jewelry enthusiasts with their elegantly simplistic designs. Designed by Aldo Cipullo in 1971, Cartier’s Juste un Clou series quickly became one of the brand’s signature styles alongside Cartier’s Love and Trinity collections.
French for “Just a Nail,” Juste un Clou is a gracefully bent nail that wraps around the wrist. Cipullo stated, “My jewelry is both functional and touchable, sleek and warm. It can be worn 24 hours a day without any problems in change of clothes.” Today, the Juste un Clou collection has expanded to include rings, earrings, cufflinks and necklaces while utilizing more metals and encrusting select pieces with diamonds.
The first Juste un Clou collection debuted in 1971 with bracelets in rose, yellow and white gold. To celebrate Cartier’s 165th anniversary in 2012, the brand introduced rings to the collection and crafted select pieces with pave diamonds on the head of the nail. In 2017, Cartier expanded this collection once more to include earrings, cufflinks, and a torque necklace. Select designs included pave diamonds that covered the entire piece as well as thicker and longer bracelets.
